Classic and Musical Movies Marathon - Singing in the Rain

Singing in the Rain

"A silent film production company and cast make a difficult transition to sound." -IMDB

1952

I can't count how many times I have watched the scene in this movie where he is "Sining in the Rain." As a dancer this is not only an iconic scene but and iconic movie. This being said I am embarrassed to say this was the first time I had watched the entire movie. And after watching it I am sad I hadn't watched it before. It was not at all what I expected and I loved that it wasn't. Great music, great dancing and a truly wonderful and sweet story line. I like that the characters were very real and the story was something I could totally see happening. Overall I loved it!

Electric Tip Nails

Yes I found another tutorial on Pinterest for fun nails! A girl has got to get her inspiration from somewhere! This time we have electric tipped nails!

The inspiration:

Now to accomplish this I tried another Pinterest idea of using page enforcers as a template.

Now I will let you know that you MUST let the first coat COMPLETELY dry before you put the enforcers on your nails or you will mess up the bottom coat. You also will have to cut and stretch the one you put on your thumb nail because it is not big enough.

End result:

So not quite as good of quality as the inspiration photo but I will say I like my color choices/shades better!

Classic and Musical Movies Marathon - Part Three

Little Shop of Horrors

"A nerdish florist finds his chance for success and romance with the help of a giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed." -IMDB

1986

Hello musical and cheesy 1980s movie combination!!! Could there be anything better? YES add Rick Moranis and Steve Martin and hello a blockbuster in Alesha's eyes! But in all seriousness Little Shop was the first musical I ever saw live and I have been in love with it ever since! The music is spectacular and the 80s film style fits just perfectly! If you haven't seen this movie please do! Trust me cheesy 80s movies are where it is at!

Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary

"Fifteen years after the historic 10th anniversary concert, the international musical sensation Les Misérables returned for a 25th anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena ." -Amazon.com

2010

If you haven't seen the movie, the musical or read the book don't watch this, you will be so confused. There is a major difference between a musical and a concert. This is a concert and it only showcases the songs from the musical and not the storyline; which is what could make it confusing. If you have read the book, seen the movie or read the book and like one of the above this might be worth your while. I personally like Les Miserables but while I found the music and singing amazing it was very, very long and drawn out. With out the story line it was a bit boring for me.

I will just have to wait until the new movie comes out and wait for Ann Hathaway to die and then appreciate it! (Sorry but she is a horrible singer.)

4th of July Nails

Got this nail design inspiration off of Pinterest. This is probably my favorite nail design I have done! I think after paining my nails so many ways for so long I am finally getting the hang of it! (Though I will admit lots of touch ups go on.)

Here is the inspiration:

And my interpretation:

I love love love love love it!!! I finally figured out how to do the nail lines well and can't wait until to use the technique on other applications!

Rainbow Polka Dot Nails

I have done this nail design many times before but every time I do it I try a different applicator "tool." The first time I did it I used a tooth pick (too pointy), next I used a spaghetti noodle (worked great!) and this time I used a bobby pin (worked the best).

I have to say I turned out quite nice. I can't wait to try it with other color combinations! Plus I am sure I will end up using some other form of a nail painting tool! Though it might be time to invest in some good brushes...

Classic and Musical Movies Marathon - Part Two

Here are my reviews of the next three movies in my marathon!

Cabaret

"A female girlie club entertainer in Weimar Republic era Berlin romances two men while the Nazi Party rises to power around them." -IMDB

1972

While I love Liza Minnelli (who doesn't) I thought this movie was too long. The singing was great and the dancing and costumes were also fun and if they would have condensed the movie I think I would have liked it more. I think my favorite part of the whole movie was the singer/announcer guy that worked at the Kit-Kat club.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

"Millie comes to town in the roaring twenties to encounter flappers, sexuality and white slavers." -IMDB

1967

Many may argue this but this might be my favorite Julie Andrews movie! Her wonderful facial expressions throughout the movie made it! I loved Millies free spirit and quirkiness. I also really liked how they would put "sub-titles" up like it was a silent movie and the 20s fashion, oh the 20s fashion!! Can you say fashion inspiration! I would definitely recommend this movie to others!

Hello Dolly

"A matchmaker named Dolly Levi takes a trip to Yonkers, New York to see the "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire," Horace Vandergelder. While there, she convinces him, his two stock clerks and his niece and her beau to go to New York City. In New York, she fixes Vandergelder's clerks up with the woman Vandergelder had been courting, and her shop assistant (Dolly has designs of her own on Mr. Vandergelder, you see)." -IMDB

1969

Barbra Streisand, that woman can sing! My favorite song from the movie was So Long Dearie what an amazing performance, so fun, quirky and passionate. I did like the costuming and the story but again I thought the movie was just too long!

Glitter Keys

I have been sick the last few days and thus have been spending a lot of time in bed, on the internet... I was  wasting time on Pinterest and came across a tutorial on how to make glitter keys. I have a ton of keys on my chain and am always mixing them up so I thought this would help distinguish certain keys from others.

Pic from Pinterest

Now I was thinking that the glitter would fall off as soon as I threw my keys in my bag so I started to think of other ways to do this. The simplest solution I thought of was to just use glitter nail polish! I just taped off the bottom of the keys and painted each in a different glitter color!

I love, love, love how this turned out!

I will no longer have to search for the right key ever again!
