Classic and Musical Movies Marathon - Part Two

Here are my reviews of the next three movies in my marathon!

Cabaret

"A female girlie club entertainer in Weimar Republic era Berlin romances two men while the Nazi Party rises to power around them." -IMDB

1972

While I love Liza Minnelli (who doesn't) I thought this movie was too long. The singing was great and the dancing and costumes were also fun and if they would have condensed the movie I think I would have liked it more. I think my favorite part of the whole movie was the singer/announcer guy that worked at the Kit-Kat club.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

"Millie comes to town in the roaring twenties to encounter flappers, sexuality and white slavers." -IMDB

1967

Many may argue this but this might be my favorite Julie Andrews movie! Her wonderful facial expressions throughout the movie made it! I loved Millies free spirit and quirkiness. I also really liked how they would put "sub-titles" up like it was a silent movie and the 20s fashion, oh the 20s fashion!! Can you say fashion inspiration! I would definitely recommend this movie to others!

Hello Dolly

"A matchmaker named Dolly Levi takes a trip to Yonkers, New York to see the "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire," Horace Vandergelder. While there, she convinces him, his two stock clerks and his niece and her beau to go to New York City. In New York, she fixes Vandergelder's clerks up with the woman Vandergelder had been courting, and her shop assistant (Dolly has designs of her own on Mr. Vandergelder, you see)." -IMDB

1969

Barbra Streisand, that woman can sing! My favorite song from the movie was So Long Dearie what an amazing performance, so fun, quirky and passionate. I did like the costuming and the story but again I thought the movie was just too long!

Glitter Keys

I have been sick the last few days and thus have been spending a lot of time in bed, on the internet... I was  wasting time on Pinterest and came across a tutorial on how to make glitter keys. I have a ton of keys on my chain and am always mixing them up so I thought this would help distinguish certain keys from others.

Pic from Pinterest

Now I was thinking that the glitter would fall off as soon as I threw my keys in my bag so I started to think of other ways to do this. The simplest solution I thought of was to just use glitter nail polish! I just taped off the bottom of the keys and painted each in a different glitter color!

I love, love, love how this turned out!

I will no longer have to search for the right key ever again!

Nail Art: Splatter Nail Attempt

So I, like every other girl, have become obsessed with Pinterest. One my my boards is called "Nail Art" where I post cool nail polish designs I find. I came across this one the other day and thought I would try it.

Well after waiting for what seemed like forever, my white coats finally dried and it was time to attempt the "splatter." I was a bit nervous so I tired it only on my "disco nails" first.

Well... this was my first attempt. It definitely does not look like the picture. :/ Maybe because I didn't have a toothpick and used spaghetti noodles instead... Though I think it probably would have worked better if I put one color on, let it dry and then put the next one on.

I wish I could say the second attempt was better but it was actually worse. I will just have to get some toothpicks and do one color at a time next time. And I must say I am glad I tried it only on my "disco nails" first!

Costume Day Memories

My studio has it's annual summer recital coming up this June. I teach a bunch of kids classes and have been working very hard to get them ready for their big performance! Last week all of their costumes came in and they got to try them on!

Some of my kids costumes.

Now costume day was always by FAVORITE day of the year as a kid. I mean it was like dress-up on a whole other level! Sequins and tutus YES! Well needless to say memories started flooding back and I was wishing that I had costumes to try on...

Me dreaming of sequin costumes!

Well dreams do come true and yesterday I got my costume day! I too will be performing in the summer show and got to try on a bunch of VERY sparkly ballroom costumes! Now I don't want to give away the surprise but here is a little preview of my fun costumes!

A little more grown up than my past costumes! ;)

Don't worry though I will post more pictures after the event of both my kiddos in their sparkly costumes and me in mine! :D

Dumbledore Befriends Moses and The Family Business

Does this ever happen to you? You are away from your house and you try to check your phone and the  "suggested Wi-Fi networks" box pops up? At first I thought it very annoying but then I started to notice people in Chicago are very creative when it comes to naming their networks. Here are a few fun ones I have found:

Who would have guessed that Dumbledore and Moses were neighbors? Those must have been some crazy BBQ's! M- "So what you up to lately Dumbledore?" D-"I am on the hunt for Horcrux with my student Harry" M-"Your searching for what!?!?! Harry Whores? Count me in!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah looks like Dumbledore found the whore I mean Horcux! I wonder if the children will take over the family business when they grow up?

I Take Too Many Drugs

Ok well not drugs but vitamins... but I do take an offal lot of them everyday!

I know, I know, it's a lot! I have a bad immune system! Okay!

A multi-vitamin, vitamin B, C, D, echinachia and Iron. Plus I am looking into a few more to start taking... I live by these vitamins and feel like the second I stop taking them I end up getting sick. So... I take all of them EVERYDAY! Now having all of these vitamin bottles in my medicine cabinet took up so much room!

Soooo cramped!!

I knew there had to be a better way to store these for my day to day use. I first purchased one of the regular day to day pill containers but it just wouldn't fit my large amount of daily vitamins!

Small and Crappy!

Then I found the below pill container at the pharmacy next to my apartment building! It stored all of my pills (with space to grow) and took up so much less space! I was then able to put the big pill containers in a drawer in my closet and save a bunch of space! Not to mention it is rainbow!!

Lots of space and colorful!

Well another Quasar put down on the blog! Feels good to get it out! Please let me know if you have any suggestions for other vitamins you think I should take! I am always looking!

Nail Art: Cinco De Mayo

Cinco De Mayo Nails
I was drawn to this color right away! So sparkly and bright! I figured it was perfect for some Cinco De Mayo celebrating!

Bombshell By Ulta

Now I had a few problems with this polish. It goes on shinny but drys a bit dull and very rough! I put a few clear coats on top and that helped but it took a few coats. Second this polish didn't last very long, it started chipping after only two days!

Classic and Musical Movies Marathon - Part One

I have had Netflix for about two years now and in the past had only used it to rent new releases and TV shows. However over the past couple months I started putting only classic movies and musical movies in my queue. I started this marathon due to the fact that I realized there were so many great classics and musical movies I hadn't seen or hadn't seen in a while.

Here are the first few in my queue and my reviews of them:

Newsies

"A musical based on the New York City newsboy strike of 1899. When young newspaper sellers are exploited beyond reason by their bosses they set out to enact change and are meet by the ruthlessness of big business." -IMDB

1992

LOVE! So so good! Not to mention all of the great actors in it who were kids then and big stars now! This movie is definitely one of my new favorites!

The Red Shoes

"A young ballet dancer is torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a prima ballerina." -IMDB

1948

While I thought the dancing was wonderful and who doesn't love red ballet shoes I can't say this will be added to my dance movie collection. I found the plot a bit slow and wasn't necessarily interested in the actual story.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

"A young New York socialite becomes interested in a young man who has moved into her apartment building." -IMDB

1961

OMG I couldn't get enough of this movie! I found the character of Holly so interesting and fun it made me want to spend the whole day doing things I had never done before! Not to mention Audrey Hepburn... va va boom; she was gorgeous! This is one movie will have to purchase and watch over and over again!

Up next in my queue: Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Les Miserables

Nail Art: April 2012

Ever since college graduation I went from someone who never wore nail polish to a nail polish addict! Never to be seen without my toes and fingers done in some fun paint job. Here are my April nail jobs!

Nude Love
I was at Forever 21 the other day and since I already had all of the Sally Hansen colors it was time to branch out. I picked up a few colors including this nude color.

Nude by Love & Beaty from Forever 21

The nail polish was very cheep but it had a great consistency and lasted just as long as any other polish I owned. I will definitely go back and purchase more. They had some other great color choices!

Blushed Sparkles
After using the nude color I started thinking of other ways I could use the polish. I have had this pink sparkle polish for a long time but only ever used it over another pink. I loved the color combination of the pink on top of the nude! Makes me want to try other colored sparkle polished on top of this nude!

Nude by Love & Beaty from Forever 21
and 830 Pinky Glitter by Sinful Colors Professionals from Walgreens

Now I will say the brand of the spark polish is not the best quality I have ever purchased but on top of other polished it worked just fine. Not to mention it was super cheap! Like $2 cheap!

Green Gradient Attempt
We all love Pinterest right? I know I do, and I often find great "nailsperations" on there. I am sure we have all heard of the nail "gradient" nails (well that's what I call them. So I thought I would give it a try! I got these polished at Walgreens they were 5 for $10 so quite cheap.

946 Happy Ending & 940 Rise and Shine & 833 Show Me The Way & 926 HD Nails &
283 San Francisco all by Sinful Colors Professionals From Walgreens

Well this didn't turn out as good as I hoped... The colors dried different than the bottles and some of the colors were of horrible quality. Now I will admit some lasted a very long time but others one day... I guess that is what you get for buying $2 polish. Oh well I will have to try again later.
